WHAT IS A SECRET SHOPPER?

A secret shopper or mystery shopper is a person hired by the organisation (traditionally through a consultancy firm), to be an expert auditor on behalf of the organisation. The job of the mystery or secret shopper is to pretend to be a shopper, but really what they are doing is auditing the organisation across a multitude of perimeters such as their people, product, process, place, philosophy and personality dimensions. They then fill in a report that helps the organisation to identify areas that they are doing well at and areas that they need to improve or innovate on.

WHAT DOES A MYSTERY SHOPPER DO?

Some would suggest the job of a secret shopper is to get paid to shop. The truth is, it is a little bit more than that. Yes, you are going to get paid to go out there and do an expert audit on companies and their relevant touch points. At the same time you also need to be very discerning, mature and level headed as a shopper to make lots of money while you do so. In other words, to succeed wildly as a mystery shopper and be given lots of really good assignments you need to showcase yourself as a highly reliable and trusted professional.

WHAT SORT OF TRAINING DO I NEED TO BE A MYSTERY SHOPPER?

You will be trained to pay attention to the brand values of the organisation you are auditing, understand their competitors, what makes them distinct and then audit them appropriately and fairly to give an even minded report on how they are performing across multiple dimensions such as their people, product, process, places, philosophy, personality and price dimensions. All  exciting stuff.

WHAT TYPES OF SECRET SHOPPER ASSIGNMENT AM I LIKELY TO GET?

We typically assign people to do mystery shopping audits for areas that they have some pre-existing expertise in. So if you come from the healthcare industry, we'll probably start you off on a healthcare secret shopper project, if you're from retail, retail it shall be and so on if you're from the hospitality, automobile, food & beverage,  tourism, banking and other industries. We may also invite you take part in opinion polls, be part of focus groups and do product testing.

WHAT DO I NEED TO GET STARTED AS A SECRET SHOPPER?

All you need to get started as a secret shopper is to have a modern smart phone and a bank account for us to transfer money into. That is of course after we whet, train and approve us as one of our expert auditors. We won't promise you it will be easy, but we would like you to get good as a secret shopper, make lots of money and have fun.

CAN I PICK AND CHOOSE WHEN I WANT TO WORK AS A MYSTERY SHOPPER?

Yes, you are free to choose when you want to work or not to match your schedule. Having said that, once you have agreed to undertake a secret shopper assignment, we are counting on you to have the integrity to deliver on your promise as well as write an accurate mystery shopping audit.

WHEN WILL I BE PAID FOR MY EXPERT AUDITS?

​

 Everything we do is done online and in real-time. Once you have undertaken an assignment, checked into the location, filled in your report and submitted it, we will check on the quality of your work. Once done, we will transfer the fee agreed upon to you within the week. It is as straight forward as that.
